MOONBOW is the sonic brainchild of London artist El Hardwick.
Alongside working as a photographer, director & writer, their avant-pop music production interweaves a vortex of ambient soundscapes, vocal manipulation and maximalist sci-fi rhythms. Using music as a medium for both personal emotional excavations and political critique, their work explores themes of cyberspace, epistemologies, non-binary and queer worldmaking practices, and how we can heal on a damaged planet. Meanwhile, Moonbow’s colourful DJ sets and mixtapes are an exercise in storytelling that delve into melancholia & euphoria, old & new, organic & synthetic. A refusal to be defined by genre, gender or media underpins their artistic voice, which is at once eclectic and also undeniably their own.
Moonbow has released three EPs, two singles and a remix to date, as well as a number of contributions to charity compilation releases. An archive listing their releases can be found here. 2020 will see the release of Moonbow’s debut album on 33-33, with more details to follow soon.
Their work has been praised & shared by i-D, Crack Magazine, Resident Advisor, Boiler Room, The Line of Best Fit, The Wire, The Guardian and The 405.
Moonbow also forms part of SIREN: a collective focussed on pushing the boundaries of electronic & club music through creating a safe and immersive space for those who are otherwise underrepresented in the scene. SIREN run parties and workshops, publish a zine, host a monthly NTS show and run a mix series.
